A-Kerr’s Bengal cats…. the beginning 1989.
.
Nestled back a private drive on five acres between Delaware and Columbus, Ohio the first Bengals cats arrived at the Kerr home amidst the horses, cats and dogs of John, Libbie, Jay 11, and Theo 8. John’s animal husbandry degree came in handy with working with the beginning genetics and care, while Libbie’s education degree led to a creative outlet for teaching responsibility to these two young sons. It rapidly became clear that the Bengal cat was going to be Libbie’s connection to people around the world.
.
In 1989 the Bengal cat’s popularity was already on the rise… sold by exotic animals farms and in auctions in Ohio, while gracing the show halls as a New Breed in the cat fancy… the Bengal cat did not have a place. Were they hybrid, exotic animals or were they domestic cats? This question still is faced today. At A-Kerr’s it is clear, they are domestic cats selectively bred to resemble the wild pattern types found in the jungles and plains but that live happily interacting and loving their human play things.
.
.Over the years, I (Libbie) have selected for health, temperament and beauty. All three are of equal importance… and selection is based on keeping all of this in mind. Health through testing of parents and kittens by certified veterinarians, temperament by selecting as breeding cats only those cats that allow their newborn babies to be handled daily, and beauty that makes makes the novice and experienced eye smile with appreciation. In 2008, A-Kerr’s Bengal cats was joined by Samantha Anderson Kerr who met her husband-to-be, Jay, because of the Bengal cats!
.
Today, Samantha and Libbie work together to continue the legacy of A-Kerr’s Bengal cats. We create the beauty, temperament and health for you to enjoy daily with your A-Kerr’s Bengal in your home.
