Marble or Marbled
Spotted Pattern
The spotted pattern is wide ranging. There is an ongoing
debate as to whether the spotting pattern is a separate gene, or just a broken
mackerel or broken classic. While the geneticists are debating this, it is
evident that the pattern that most closely resembles the non-domestic is
horizontally aligned. Horizontal alignment pulls the eye from front to rear of
the cat. The broken mackerel pattern is much more vertical and stripy looking.
Pictures of non-domestic small cats show a strong alignment to the horizontal.
This is speculated to be the gene that is coming from the non-domestic, thus
introducing a whole new pattern effect that also influences the
marble.

Akerrs AH, sixth
generation, shows well the horizontal alignment that is highly
desired. Also note her high hips, jutting shoulders and thick
tail. She has a whited belly. A granddaughter of

The other spotted breeds of Ocicat and Egyptian Mau, follow
the vertical movement of the broken mackerel and broken classic. For more

Rosetting is preferred. Rosetting comes in a variety of
ways.

This
photo shows the combination of spotting found on the same cat. She has the dark
outlined, doughnut rosette, the arrowhead, and the cluster. The photo is

| This fourth generation cat
exhibits the smaller spotting, but because the alignment is horizontal, the
effect is that of a non-domestic. The high degree of rufinism is affecting the
spotting color. (Akerrs High Calipurr) |

Marble Pattern / in ACFA referred
to as the Marbled Pattern
MARBLE
Different pattern. The marble gene comes from the classic
tabby bull's-eye gene that is modified by the horizontal pattern flow of the
non-domestic gene. This pattern is called a marble in TICA to distinguish
between the horizontal flow of the non-domestic influence and the domestic
fixed bull's-eye. The ideal is to get three or more colors within this pattern.
The marble comes in the brown tabby color range as well as the seal lynx point,
seal sepia, and seal mink colors.

Close
up photos of Ch Akerrs Serendipity. These
photos show the dark outlining and the vibrant red/gold
interiors. This takes time to develop. |

The brown marble kitten
pictured at left, shows the beginning of the "falling
out" of the marble pattern. as she matures this
will become more outlined, and the centers will be more extreme in their
contrast. Marbles should have a horizontal flow... and with look of
swirled coloring. |
