WHITED TUMMY
|
terminology |
| Asian leopard cat white |
This is the crisp "blue" white with black spotting. |
| Base of hair |
Refers to looking at the base of hair at the skin |
| Blue white |
This is a bright and vivid white. A "blue" white is
the "natural light" light bulb rather than the regular light bulb. The
color is crisp, pure. |
| cream white |
also called yellow white... this is not the same sort
of crisp white. |
| pattern of white* *This white must have pattern. |
There appears to be several different patterns that white
can be expressed in:
 | The Asian leopard cat white (Alc) begins from the mouth, goes
down the neck, throughout the tummy, apparent on the sides, on the inner
legs down to the feet, and up the tail. |
 | Hourglass: much like an hour glass shape when looking at the
tummy. Wider at the top and narrowing in the middle to widen again
through the abdominal area. |
|
| whited expression |
|
| whited tummy* perhaps better terminology "white underside" |
refers to the white underside of the cat with pattern
of black. |
| black spotted pattern with white underside |
this runs from the necklaces down through the abdominal area
through and down the legs. Pattern is black on the Alc. (?is it
always black on the Alc?) |
|
How to identify? |
| pink / flesh toned nose, lips |
This HAS to be done early, for the tone changes
at about ten days. |
| paw pads flesh toned at birth |
| spectacles are white |
*there are exceptions |
| photos of the tummy, comparison of whites side by side |
may depend on the camera and photography |
| white from chin through tummy |
|
| same SHADE of white on tummy as on chin |
|
 | Hypothesis: White underside in the Asian leopard cat and other small
and large cats is for camouflage while in trees. |

These SBT sisters are out of a whited to non-whited
mating (the rest of the litter lost their white by about 12 weeks).
Pictures are current at 5 months of age. Their nearest ALC ancestry traces
back to Centerwall in the 80s.
